Obviously, the prospects for major immigration reform legislation are being dealt a blow this evening. But it looks like the lord of the anti-immigrants - Tom Tancredo - is going down to defeat in the Colorado governor's race. Marco Rubio seemed to push an Arizona-like law for Florida in the election campaign, but his speech this evening was all about the immigrant dream. Six years of Republican control in Washington have taken a toll on the country -- and the GOP is paying the price politically. Instead of the Bush administration ushering in a new era of GOP dominance, as Karl Rove hoped, it has set the stage for a Democratic resurgence.
That turnabout was implicit in the results of the 2006 midterm election, when Democrats took back narrow majorities in the House and Senate and captured the majority of governorships. And it is reinforced by a massive poll released last week by Andrew Kohut and the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press.
The survey of 2,007 people, conducted in December and January, depicts a dramatic shift in Americans' attitudes, opinions and values between 1994, when Republicans took control of Congress, and now. Most of the change has occurred since George Bush took office in 2001.
The poll, which can be found at http://www.people-press.org, is a treasure trove of information about Americans' views of the parties, government, the world scene, religion, the economy, business, labor and a dozen other topics.
But a word of caution is in order. There is little here that suggests voters' opinion of Democrats is much higher than it was when they lost Congress in 1994. It seems doubtful that Democrats can help themselves a great deal just by tearing down an already discredited Republican administration with more investigations such as the current attack on the Justice Department and White House over the firings of eight U.S. attorneys.
At some point, Democrats have to give people something to vote for. People already know what they're against -- the Republicans.

There shouldn't be a problem. There's your DOB, A# and photograph on the card to verify that the person is actually you.

Hi there,
I am going to apply H4 VISA for my spouse, but we don't have any marriage pictures. and the problem is I am here in USA and she is back home, and i can't go back home because of my project.
I came to know that pics are very important for H4 Visa.....Anybody have any suggestion...

Hello, my wife and I have been approved and got notice of action (I-797C) in mail May 23 (recieved date May 22). Online USCIS states our cards went into production June 13th and allow 30 days to recieve. We have not moved but will in mid August in order to begin work under OPT. We called USCIS service center on 1-800-375-5283 on 30th day and put in a trace on our cards. USCIS states case will be assigned within 30 days and then expect within 45 days to hear. This is impossible as we hope to begin work before that. I know that calls can be made to get permission to work as we are F-1 graduating Aug 8th BUT need the cards for our bank to approve financing.
Question - is there any way to make direct contact with someone who can tell us the card WAS mailed and provide confirmation. It is odd that regulkar mail delivers such a valuable, time consuming document.
Any comments would be helpful.

One thing is clear just lecturing members to go meet up with the lawmakers is NOT working. IV needs to come up with some fresh ideas, I mean, we all need to come up with new ideas.
Lets start brainstorming again. Here is a start
1. Some how IV meets with the president or his staff and requests visa recapture an interim fix. Ask for visa lottery numbers to be allocated to EB numbers for 3 years
Ask for relaxation in rules for changing jobs.
2. Run full page or a big advertisement in a national daily asking for the above. I am sure people will contribute if IV takes initiative.
3. Get USCIS working on our FOIA request asap. Complain to the president about it.
4. Legal action

Company A filed my PERM in Sep 2008 showing 5 yrs job experience as of April 2005 .
I joined Company B citing 6 yrs job experience as of Dec 2009 due to various reasons.
Joined Company B in Dec 2009 and have H1b valid till April 2011 which is when my 6 year period ends.
My issues are:
1. If Company B files for my 7th year extension using the pending PERM, will the job experience discrepancy pose any problems ?
2. Does Company B have to know all the details in my pending PERM or just the case number to use it?
3. What is the earliest Company B can apply for 7th year extension?

You are already counted in the quota. So it is just transfer. But for transfer need recent paystubs. Consult a lawyer how to handle this. Definitly you no need to wait for April 1 st quota for new H1B.

Hello.
I have lived 6 yrs here & became a U.S. Citizen last Sept. 2010. Last February 2011 i was diagnosed of Breast Cancer. It's been pretty rough living alone without any relatives around. My husband works oversea and he travels frequently, he can't change his job right now, this will be the source of our income to support my health situation. In the next two months my doctor told me to do another surgery on my breast. I did fine with my first surgery as my husband stay home for a couple of weeks while waiting his next project. I'am thinking if it possible for me to petition my knee to live with me in the U.S. as i will need a assistance with all therapy and with my 11 yr. daughter. I am from the Philippines.
Please advice.

Is it ok to use this form though we will be filing the I-485 on 07/01/07.

I am filling out an LCA online for an employer who is hiring someone as an H-1B transfer. I am using iCERT and had a question as I go through the process:
Part E. Attorney of Agent Information
16. Law firm/Business FEIN:
This sections asks me for my law firm tax ID number. However, I am a solo practitioner so do not have a TIN or EIN - I use my SSN for taxes etc.
If I leave this part blank, or put N/A will this make them deny my LCA? I called their help desk, but am waiting (who knows how long) for them to respond.

I am in L2 visa right now and I have an EAD to work. I got a job that I need to start on oct 01.
My spouse status will change from L1 to H1B from oct 01, as his employer filled for H1B.
Our L1 & L2 are valid until Aug 2011.
I don't have H4 yet.
What are the various options available for me to work?
1. Can I use my EAD to work which is valid until aug 2011?
2. Can I apply for H1B for me? If yes when I can start working with my H1B.
3. Is there is any way to maintain my husband L1 status until it's validity(Aug 2011) and then switching to H1B after L1 expires?
