I think more than 90% of companies in service industries have more than 50% emps in H1/L1. The fees may be indirectly passed to the employees in terms of cut in salary or cut in profit sharing.

If they are such smart to calculate numbers like you said, which is theoritically possible, they would not be creating mess like this for years.
Yes, it is easy for them to know how many applications are filed and from which country and how many are in which category etc etc. Based on visa numbers availability, they could very well process the applications are request the visa numbers from DHS. When USCIS handles all the 485 processing, then how come DHS is responsible for moving the dates in VB. It is insane and ridiculous for DHS to have this functionality when they do not have any idea on 485 apps with USCIS. They are scewing up immigrants deliberately without transparency between them.
As I already stated, it is proven beyond the point that DOL and USCIS has only the ability to count the numbers. They do not even know exactly how much labor is pending by country. The same is true for I140 as well.
There is confusion even about how the count works. When your name is struck at FBI name check, it is not counted as backlog itself by USCIS anymore :( [I vaguely remember someone posting this quoting some reference from USCIS memo regarding reduction of processing times].
This is why in many cases you see the sudden forward movement in PD followed by heavy retrogression. Historically those who got approved when the PD is moved forward are always lucky.

These companies will pay the extra fees, but will change their onshore/offshore model. Will use less H1/L1 visas , but will increase the headcount of offshore operations.
So the smart senator will force more jobs to be outsourced. These jobs will never comeback once gone. If we look back at the 2000 recession, it caused a major shift in the way US companies looked at outsourcing. Pre-2000 many companies didn't believe that all jobs could be outsourced. 2000 recession forced them to think otherwise.

You have gotten a lot of feedback already here, just some additional practical advice-
1. You need to decide whether you will be happy comprising for the rest of your life just so that you can protect your baby' life? Make a decision thinking long term if you think your marriage will work or not.
2. As long as you are in the US - be sure you are aware of the legal laws and don't do anything that will go against you (harrassment, abuse, etc). Allegations can be made but do not do anything in anger/frustration that acts as evidence against you in the future.
3. Make sure your wife DOES NOT TAKE THE CHILD AND LEAVE THE COUNTRY UNDER THE PRETEXT OF A VACATION. Cause if that happens then you will be blackmailed for your child and my advise would be to not travel to India under any circumstance since laws there are totally against the MEN.
3. If you decide to go for a divorce, find a good lawyer and get all the information. Do it in the US - laws in India will be in your wife's favor.
4. In general do not travel to India until you are assured that these issues are settled and you won't get stuck in India even if you go there only for a vacation.
5. Record conversations and build proof incase things go bad in the future. Do not take this lightly - this will be your only savior if false allegations are put against you in India.

Here is my story:
I came to US in 2002 and completed masters and been working since then. I got married couple of years ago. Whatever the monetary gifts the girls parents gave as part of the marriage, I put all that in an account on the girls name within 2 days of the marriage. We came to India and from then on the problems started. She and her parents want me to separate from my parents and support their family by sending money to their parents which I couldn't do. How can I leave my parents in their old age when they worked very hard to give a decent life. She has been harassing me mentally for this all the time. Recently her parents have been threatening me saying they will file dowry case in India if I don't send money or cut myself off from my parents. I provided for the girl in all possible ways, even encouraged her to join school to get a masters degree which she stopped soon. We had a baby recently and my parents visited us to help us with the baby. She started harassing them too by saying something or other.
I am very frustrated at this situation and I don't know what to do. I am on H1B and applied for 485 too. At times I feel like applying for divorce but when I think about my little baby I am not able to take that step. The house we currently live in, I bought long before the marriage. It came to a situation where we cannot live together. I cannot ask her to go out of the house because she doesn't have anywhere to go and with the baby even if she leaves, it will be very tough. I said I will leave the house and stay in a apartment for which she threatens to commit suicide. So, I don't know what to do. Can someone explain what "Temporary Restrain Order" would do if it were successful. It sounds to me that the lawsuit is asking the court to temporarily invalidate the July visa bulletin so that USCIS will be forced to accept the applications. Is this a reasonable understanding? Any lawyers here?

There is a talk about HMDA which is an agency to overlook a project extending the Hyderabad to Bhongir in the East and to Medak in the west.
There will be strict implementation of plans for constructing new houses.
Realtors have already started marketing this and extracting high prices.
If you do have time to research, you can purchase land for cheap (around 3-4 thousand rupees per sql yard) in the outskirts.

Thank you!! That's true exagerated values. With concurrent filing you can travel in and out of the country, you can work etc. Now we are moaning that the greencard is going to take forever! Wow! Be happy with this situation (file your i-140 & i-485) and stop these pessimistic views!
I think the calculations are actually conservative. If this thread depresses you, don't read it. But people need to be able to whatever analysis they can to see what's ahead!

Apart from calling all senators, I am thinking of writing to them/their offices as well. I guess different forms of communication would not hurt.
Many people stuck in the greencard backlog are not even aware of these steps (and organizations such as IV). How can we all help? Spread the word... post the link to Pappu's message in your facebook feed / blog etc.
